Summary and Suggestion

Purposes of Practicum

The Sea Teacher program is a one-month student exchange program for teaching practice in ASEAN nations to improve regional cooperation in research, education, and culture, t. It is intended that through this activity, students would be able to learn about the internal workings of education overseas, enabling them to develop fresh approaches to education back home.

Procedures of Teaching

Sea teacher activities last for one month. For the first week, the activities are observation, the second week is for assistance, the third week is for practice, and the fourth week is for evaluation. However, based on my experience in the third week, I prepared two lesson plans. I had my teaching demonstration in my third and fourth weeks. In total, I had taught for 11 hours.

Outcomes of Practicum

I felt happy because I could practice my English, and I gained greater confidence when communicating, talking, or explaining something in English. Back then, I felt insecure about my capability, sometimes I overthink for something like this "Am I able to have a conversation with them? Will they understand me? What if I am unsure of how to respond to their question?" such kind of stuff. I always wonder how it feels to talk and communicate with foreign people using the English language. Now I know how it feels. And Hey, that's what language is for, to communicate. It's all about understanding each other.

Because of this program, I feel more secure in myself I just tell people how I'm feeling, what I want, and what I think about things without feeling recitent or timid.

Overall Impression

I felt very grateful to be able to experience studying abroad and living in Baguio City for a month, thus I consider enrolling in the Sea teacher program to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I enjoyed every moment that I spent in this city, with my friends, with our buddies.

During our stay in the Philippines, Saint Louis University provided us with excellent care, support, and direction. I believe there aren't many experiences that can compare to the ones I've had through the Sea Teacher program.

Suggestion

The program is designed to last for two to three months, giving the students ample opportunity to experience a wide range of activities during that time. We came to the realization that a month is not long enough, as there are numerous locations we still haven't visited due to our exhaustion during the workdays. woke up at 4 am, walked to school at 6 am, and returned to the dorm at 6 pm. I actually felt exhausted, so when I got to my dorm, all I wanted to do was relax. Occasionally, there isn't a jeepney, so we have to walk from the school. As a result, we felt that our weekend free time was insufficient because we also used it for our lesson plan and teaching demo preparation.

However, a longer program results in higher costs and expenses. which we have already spent a significant amount of money on for a month. We are fortunate that our university also provides housing and financial assistance for us. Because we know many students use their own funds for this program. So, if the student is only staying for a month, the receiving university might be able to arrange for them to visit popular spots and go around the city on the weekends at least twice.
